Court of Honor and Upcoming Activities

April 30th is our Court of Honor where we recognize our scouts for rank advancement and merit badges earned since December.  The Dragons will be setting up and should arrive at 7:00PM at the Fellowship Hall and the Hawks will be staying after to clean up.  The Ninja Patrol is conducting the flag ceremony and should arrive at 7:00PM to practice, and the Bishop Patrol should also come at 7:00PM to guide them.
Some general information about our Court of Honor...  Scouts should be in full uniform (Class A) wearing your merit badge sash if you have one.  This event is family-friendly.  Mothers should wear their mother's ribbon/pins (new scout moms will receive one once your scout receives his first rank).
We will be having ice cream sundaes for refreshments afterward.  Please consider signing up for a topping and/or for a volunteer opportunity at the following link:http://troop435.pleasebringit.com/public/0Xg1mWOGDpI
Directions to the Fellowship Hall:  continue driving past our meeting room, turn right past the church.  The Fellowship Hall is the last door on your right.
We have been advised of a possible conflict on Monday with the Dodgen Open House for rising sixth graders.  Please stop in when you are finished and join us for recognition and refreshments.
Summer Camp fees:  All outstanding balances should be paid either April 30th or May 7th.
Camp Cards:  We have 200 camp cards available.  You may pick them up at the Court of Honor, or you can contact fmbailey@mindspring.com if you would like to receive them prior to Monday.  If you have unsold Camp Cards that you plan to return, please do this at the Court of Honor or May 7th meeting.  You may apply your escrow to your Summer Camp fees once you return any unsold cards and submit payment for the sold cards.  If you would like to settle up your Camp Card balance, this can be done April 30th or May 7th.
Upcoming Events:      We are exploring possible locations for a drop camp May 18-20.
June 2/3 backpacking (approx. 11 miles) at Blood Mountain
We look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Camping Trip to Chickamauga Nat'l Battlefield-- April 20-22

Where:  Chickamauga  National Battlefield Park, Ft Oglethorpe, Ga
When: April 20-22, 2012
Cost: $10.00 for gas and camping fees plus whatever the patrols need for food (typically around per scout)
Please being a signed permission slip (copy attached) and $10 (cash preferred) to the meeting on Monday.

Please be prepared to make a commitment on Monday if you are planning to attend. We need a good count so no one gets left behind on Friday.
If you are planning to go but can't make the meeting, please let any troop leader know and we will include you.
We will meet at ECUMC Friday, April 20 at 7PM.  We will be carpooling using the church van and other personal vehicles as necessary.  If for some reason you will be meeting us at the campsite, please let us know.  If anyone will be coming separately, we have sites 4 & 5 reserved.  These campsites are specifically for scout-type groups and will not show up on the maps available on their website.  If you are new to our troop and plan to drive, we will need your car information to include on the Tour Plan.
This will be a drive in camping trip. If you are interested in attending, there is still room available.  We will camp out 2 nights and return to the church about 12:30 on Sunday. Departure time to be announced.

The scouts will cook by patrols and have already prepared their menus. The adults will also cook as a patrol.  Please let us know of any food allergies or dietary restrictions so that we can modify our menu as needed.

A short hike over mostly level ground is part of the proposed program. The more leaders we have, the more options will be available to the scouts about which trail to hike and who hikes in what group.

Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge - Meet with Mr. David Banks this Saturday, 8:45 AM

Mr. Banks began his first term on the Board January 2009.  Mr. Banks was born in Atlanta and has lived in East Cobb since 1969.  Mr. Banks enjoys growing vegetables, building RC airplanes and taking cruises with friends.  Mr. Banks' objective as a Board member is to move the Cobb County School System to a first-class 21st century organization where the best and latest technology tools are effectively used to enhance student achievement, to be aware of employees needs,  and fulfill the community expectations.

To fulfill a portion of your Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge requirements, prepare by determining what issues are important to you or others in your community in regards to your school or the school system in general and prepare your questions for Mr. Banks.

4. Choose an issue that is important to the citizens of your community,

then do the following:

(a) Find out which branch of local government is responsible for this issue.

(b) With your counselor’s and a parent’s approval, interview one person from the branch of government you identified in requirement 4a.

Ask what is being done about this issue

and how young people can help.

(c) Share what you have learned with your counselor.

If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask!

Thanks!

Appalachian Trail Hiking Trip

Appalachian Trail Hiking Trip
March 31- April1, 2012
Troop 435

We started Saturday morning at Hightower and hiked to Coopers Gap where we camped for the night. This was a pretty hard hike with steep climbs. Camping was nice, but was colder than we expected. Sunday morning we broke camp and hiked out to Gooch Gap. This was an easier hike and we all had a lot of fun.
