Hightower Gap to Gooch Gap AT - Backpacking Trip (with Base Camp - March 31- April 1, 2012

The Troop will be backpacking from Hightower to Gooch Gap

Distance over two days - about 9 miles

Day 1: Hightower to Cooper (4 miles), Camp at Cooper Gap (Base Camp)

Day 2: Cooper to Gooch Gap (5 miles)

Note: No water source on day 1 and thus Troop will store water at Cooper Gap prior to the Hike.  Pack enough water to get to the Base Camp.  We will refill at Base Camp.

Meet at Church at 7:45 AM

Bring, permission release form (attach), $ 10 for transportation, and a few $$ for a quick fast food stop on Sunday (April 1)

Sunday April 1, 2012

Return to Church around 4:00 PM.

WEATHER: 50% chance of rains on Saturday with low temperature at night around 50⁰ C .

Clothing: Rain gear, no-cotton socks or shirts.  Sunblock, insect repellent, etc.

Food: Lunch and dinner on Saturday, Breakfast and Lunch on the Trail on Sunday.

NOTE: The Trip is a backpacking trip.  Even if you day-hike, all operations will be backpacking style. No hot water will be provided by Adults but younger will be assisted by the older Scouts to prepare simple meals (i.e. add hot water) as necessary.

Pack 565 Crossover

Good Morning Troop 435!

We have a busy weekend for welcoming new Scouts into our troop!  There are two crossovers on Saturday.  We will be accepting a lot of new Scouts to Troop 435 this weekend, and we should make a showing at each event that is worthy of these Cubs and Webelos image of us!   

Pack 565's crossover ceremony on March 10th, 5:00pm at Mc Farlane Park. 

We need more Scouts to attend.  If it is possible to get a few more pack 565 alumni and older Scouts (like Christian and maybe one other Bishop Patrol member), then I think we will be set to "represent"!   So far we have confirmed attendees including myself, Mr. Padmanabhan, Mr. Podhaisky and Mr. Larsen, Soorian, Luke, Brien, and Eric. 

Dinner will be at 5:30 and the ceremony will start around 6:15pm.  If you haven’t been to one of their crossovers, you should try to attend.  They do it right, with a meal and a great crossover ceremony.  And this year’s crossover setting has been largely developed with the skills and assistance of Mr. Padmanabhan and Mr. Podhaisky.

Please let me know if you plan to attend and whether you need directions.  Mc Farlane Park is close by, right off of Johnson’s Ferry and Paper Mill, and the event is worth the trip!
